Course Description
This course is for students new to photography and digital technology. Participants will learn the basics of digital photography, including composition, color, exposure, camera functions, digital terms, loading images onto a Mac computer, the basics of Adobe Bridge, and Photoshop CS3 (including Camera Raw). If time permits, basic printing on an inkjet printer will also be covered. Lectures and hands-on learning will help to build your photographic confidence and technique!
Requirements
Students need to bring a jump/flash drive and digital camera (point and shoot or digital SLR) and its manual. No previous experience in digital photography necessary, but working knowledge of computers is strongly recommended, particularly Macs. Cost of paper and ink for printing and jump/flash drives are not included in course fee.
Participants are allotted 10 hours of open lab time for no additional charge during the duration of this course in MCP's Digital Lab, for class related work only. Ink and paper fees still apply.

This class will use iMac 17" computers with iPhoto, CS3, Adobe Bridge, and a FireFox Internet browser.
Instructor
Jes Schrom is the Education and Outreach Director at MCP and a Photography Instructor at Normandale Community College (Bloomington, MN). She received a BA in Visual Arts from Minnesota State University Moorhead and an MFA from the University of Minnesota (Minneapolis). Schrom's photographs have been featured in such publications as Shutterbug Magazine and Photographer's Forum. Her artwork has been exhibited at the North Dakota Museum of Art (Grand Forks, MN), Soo Visual Art Center (Minneapolis, MN), University of Wisconsin (LaCrosse), Intermedia Arts (Minneapolis, MN), and Bejing Film Academy (China), among others. Schrom is currently producing a new body of work titled Cute Vandalism, which combines traditional embroidery, photography, and found bathroom graffiti.
