The artwork is to be installed at fifteen transit stations located along the corridor.

Artists Live-Work Housing Nears Reality, NE Mnpls
In the spring of 2009 the Northeast Minneapolis Community Development Corporation (NE CDC) is scheduled to break ground on the Jackson Artists Center, a revolutionary live-work complex actually designed by local artists with the aid of the Logan Park Neighborhood association.
The project is being developed by the NE CDC with the building plan meeting the highest standards of durability, flexibilty, and sustainability. More significantly, the building also meets the highest standards of artists. After three years of design charetttes, focus groups, market studies, studio tours, complete redesigns, and more focus groups, the NE CDC projec team feels confident they and the artists have a common vision.
Unique amenities include a gallery space, an office/technology area, a freight-sized elevator and functional loading dock, underground parking, and an outdoor sculpture/zen garden. The building is being designed using current green/sustainable building techniques and will be built to the Silver standard of LEED certification.
The 43 live-work studios will function as personal studio space. Features include 10 or 12 foot ceilings, minimal interior walls, concrete floors, soundproofing, 220 power, big doorways, industrial strength plumbing fixtures, and high quality natural lighting and ventilation systems.
But the most exciting feature is that they've managed to squeeze all this into a building that will cost 43 studio purchasers about $175 per square foot - 10% less than the current market price for condos , and considering the features, a huge value. And to up the affordability quotient even more, about half of the 43 units will be offered under a land trust arrangement that will bring the cost of many living units to under $100,000.
More information on the Jackson Artists Housing Project can be found at NE CDC's website at www.necdc.org.
